I recently had the privilege of being asked to be a part of the iBody panel held at Freeflow Academy in Rocklin, CA. The panel consisted of people who had incredible stories of hardship, addiction, struggle, acceptance, and survival. But these panelists not only survived, they learned to thrive, and a large part of their success was coming to a realization that they were OK, that a lot of their pain came from feeling like they were not enough, that their minds weren't enough, that their bodies weren't enough. I was asked to address how we talk to our kids about body positivity and body image in general. I was so grateful to have an opportunity to preach something that is so near and dear to my heart, empathy, compassion, and listening. Ultimately, the way we can connect to our kids, our spouses, our friends, anyone, is first to listen.
